Lets get the Perfect Makeup Base
The success of finding the perfect base for makeup has eluded me. I have found the most amazing, effective products for my skin to get it smooth, healthy and blemish/spot free for the most part. However to find makeup products that play well with my skincare products has been quite the process, to say the least.
You can have the best, “cult”, skincare product and the best makeup product but they may not necessarily work well together. Therein lies the challenge. For me it took research and alot of trial and error to find products that work together and also work well on my sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts (as if we need these added complications right?). Finally i have found my go to products that help to create that perfect makeup base for dry skin.
Ok Girl, lets get into it!..

Sunscreen for the perfect makeup base
For my everyday look i usually use the Garnier Sheer Glow. Or the Colorscience Tinted Sunscreen.
You can read all about these on my previous post here.
Back to which sunscreen will give you that flawless makeup base, though. I love the Kosas SPF and the La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF. Both of these are fantastic although the La Roche is exceptional under makeup. The Kosas, i found to be quite smooth and easy to apply into skin however i do use a beauty blender to make sure i dont have any residue left on my skin. It is also great on my sensitive skin ie. No Breakouts!!
The La Roche-Posay is honestly a dream application. It goes on so smoothly and sits beautifully under makeup. Im obsessed with it BUT the issue i have is it does break me out slightly. Its never a major breakout however after finally getting my skincare right to get /keep clear skin, i dont want anything to mess with that so i sadly can only use this when i have an event and really want that perfect makeup (base).
ps. im getting the Sunmist spray from Sculpted by Aimee. Iv heard and read such great things about it so im excited to try and let you know how it goes:)
Lets Moisturise
One of the absolute imperative things for a flawless, smooth makeup base, is well hydrated/moisturized skin. Not all moisturizers/creams are created equal especially when it comes to working well underneath makeup. While I LOVE the Tatcha Day cream it doesn’t work as well for my skin underneath foundation. Thats where my fave creams for that perfect base, come in.
The first one is quite pricey (dont worry, i have a much more budget friendly option coming up that works just as well).

AUGUSTINUS BADER THE RICH CREAM
Okay, so first and foremost, lets rip the bandaid off – the cost of this can seem eye watering (£230 for 50ml), but you need the tiniest amount so it lasts a long time. I would also say if on a budget, use this when you really need your makeup to be perfect ie. special occasions. The main reason i love this cream is that its not just a moisturising cream , its hailed as the future of skincare. So not only will it give you a flawless base but more importantly, it helps your skin. By stimulating your skin’s natural renewal process, these potions help to visibly reduce the signs of ageing and environmental damage, leaving your skin looking and feeling restored, regenerated and renewed. It will help to transform your skin (and not just under makeuup:)). Try it Here

The “Budget Friendly” Version
This cream i discovered when i got married and the makeup artist used it as the base before doing my makeup and i loved the look and feel of it. I asked her for the name and have been using it ever since. Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré is a moisturiser and and primer in one. It contains vitamins that help reduce irritation and plump skin for firmer results. The Cream also promotes cell renewal and produces a satin film to reduce dryness. You only need a small amount and it works so beautifully under makeup. Retails for £21.99. Lets shop.

EAZE DROP BLURRING SKIN TINT
This is basically a tinted moisturiser that instantly blurs and smooths out your skin with just a few drops. Rihanna knows what she is doing, she is a goddess and in her we trust! Its no wonder this works like a dream. I use it mixed with my sunscreen and in addition to the blurring, i find it gives a pretty subtle “lit from within” glow, under your makeup. The eaze drops retail for £29 on the Fenty website.
Dont forget the Eyes
Often we forget that the under eyes need as much (sometimes more) attention, as the face. The older we get, the more tricky it can become to ensure that the under eyes are wrinkle free and smooth. There are 3 things that i have found that have changed my under eye game.

Cream
This cream really lived up to the hype. Its a staple in many makeup artists bags, and for good reason. Lets welcome Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream. I was sceptical at first (just because iv tried so many products), but this has genuinely made such a difference. In addition to my usual under eye creams (no7 line correcting serum, The Ordinary Caffeine Solution , Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Cream. ),
i use the Bobby Brown cream to add that last layer of hydration to really boost the moisture under my eyes. One of the culprits of concealers and powders causing caking and wrinkles under the eyes, is dry skin. So adding moisture is a must. The Bobby Brown cream adds that hydration and moisture that sits wonderfully under concealer and helps immensely to stop caking and wrinkles.

Concealer
If you dont get your concealer right, then the under eye is going to be a mess. So i have been on a quest to find the best one that provides good coverage and applies really smooth. For daily use i love the Maybelline Instant Anti Age Erase Concealer. Although its not full coverage enough for me when im doing a proper “face beat” and thats where my favourite concealer comes in – Huda Beauty #fauxfilter luminous Concealer. This concealer has literally been designed to solve our under eye makeup issues. It has been designed to be crease-proof, buildable and long-lasting. It is a “does it all” concealer including making sure it doesnt settle into creases and no flashbacks in pictures (very important for the IG girlies:)). Retailing for £26, you can get yours at Cult Beauty.

Just Brush it Off
The last tool in my makeup arsenal that is a must for that smooth finish for the perfect makeup base, is the concealer brush. Now of course almost every beauty brand and store has their version of the best concealer brush , and iv tried so many (in every budget), but the one that has worked the best for me is from Superdrug. Thats right, The Real Techniques Brightening Concealer Brush is the only one you need, girls. The bristles are soft for comfort, yet firm enough for smooth application. And because of its precision tip design, you get the concealer application exactly where you want it. It spreads the concealer out so smoothly ( i also use it to apply the fauxfilter color corrector under the concealer), and it works a dream. The best part? – it retails for just £6 so you can try it with confidence:)
Thats it from me today. Armed with this knowledge, go fourth and conquer the makeup base world 😀
Let me know how it works for you.
Lots of luv,
Arita XX
